We were inspired by the 10 Habits of Happy Moms article and decided to write our own list of things that make US happy – what would you add to the list?! Here’s Kim’s Top 5:
- Get Organized!!
What makes us both happy without a doubt is to plan ahead and try to get things organized around the house. I refuse to even touch my computer in the morning until I’ve done my morning “chores” around the house which sets a great tone for the day – at least I feel like I’m accomplishing something!
- Take time out for yourself!
No, you’re not being selfish and some people may think it’s crazy but you have to remember to put aside time for youself – even just 10 minutes in the restroom reading a couple pages of that book you wanted to read…last year! It’s called: Work-Life Balance! Let’s face it, being a Mom is hard WORK!
- Don’t skip naps!
At least, not on a regular basis. This is one of the most important things that make our lives go smoothly (as possible). When Luke doesn’t have a nap, there’s bound to be huge tantrum coming along any minute usually while you’re trying to fit in as much as possible and trying to get that one last thing accomplished. I can tell you how it ends up – no one is happy and we’re a hot mess! (as Jennie would say!)
- Lower your expectations!
You have to remind yourself that while you ARE supermom you just can’t do everything. Pick and choose just a couple things that mean a lot to you and start there! If you’re feeling overwhelmed – make a list! It always helps me to get it all out of my head and it never seems so bad when I can visually see it on paper!
- Choose your battles!
Come up with a list of “deal breakers” and what YOU feel comfortable with, depending on the situation, and stick to them. Sometimes it’s not worth wanting to confront your in-laws or the grandparents about how things are done differently at your house. Try to let it go, and go to your happy place!
Kim, I could NOT have said this better myself! I totally agree, of course, these are the many things Kim and I talk about on a daily basis! That is right… we make sure that we keep each others sanity in check! That’s what friends are for 🙂 This is another way to stay happy… it is called girlfriends!
The only thing I really want to add to the list is:
Look at the bright side
My mom always use to say “there is always someone who has it worse”. On my worst days I try and remind myself of all my blessings and look at the bright side. I thank God for another day on this earth. Although it sounds cheesy, it really does make me happier when I can take a step back and look at the big picture.
What makes you happy? We would love to hear your healthy mom habits!
