I must admit to being new to the whole “coupon world” until the last year. I never seem to find the coupons that I’m looking for but also, I’ve found that to really save money you do have to think a little differently. Instead of deciding on a menu for our family and then buying the ingredients, I try to see what’s on sale first and then decide our family meals based on what’s on sale or what I can find coupons for. Another great way to save money is to plan out your spending, especially on meals for the family. I don’t know about you, but I could (and have) spent hundreds on food at the grocery store for just the two of us, a lot of which was unplanned and spur of the moment purchases. I always make a list now and plan out our meals for the week to prevent the “too tired to cook” or easy drive thru meals when nothing is planned. Another great way to make money is to make meals that will last you a couple days. We’ve recently had colds at our house so this weekend I made a really yummy veggie pizza that even the hubs loved with a little buffalo hot sauce!
This is a great recipe to get the kids involved with and let them help you sprinkle all the topping on! All you need is a crescent roll base (the Kroger brand is a little healthier, without the trans fat), spread a little cream cheese with a ranch spice seasoning (or any home made spice seasoning) and add all your fav veggies on top! We used shredded carrots, red and green bell peppers, cheese, spring onions, broccoli and tomatoes. You can make it easy on yourself by lining your cooking sheet with parchment paper so after you cook the crescent roll base you simply lift it out of the pan and right onto the chopping board or serving plate, making it easy to cut with a pizza cutter! This meal (made with one package of crescent rolls) made lunch for our family of three for two days. It’s so cheap to make and it’s a healthy and really tasty way to eat your veggies! If you want to try this recipe, Coupons.com is offering a great coupon to save $.50 when you buy two of the crescent rolls this week – check it out here.
Another one of our new fav coupon sites is Living Social. With SO many new coupon websites emerging every day, we do our best to keep you updated with the best places to go and save your money! If anyone has been following Groupon craze, this concept isn’t new to you.
Each day they send you one deeply discounted deal to use at a local business. You can save up to 90% off the best in your city. If you LOVE the dealio, you just click on the link to purchase and you receive your printable voucher the next day! What makes it even better is that if you make a purchase, they give you a personal link and if 3 people buy the deal using your link, you get your deal FREE! They even have a cool “Escapes” section where you can look for affordable weekend getaways. As a parent… who doesn’t need one of those?! Like many of the other online money saving websites, Living Social gives you a personal link once you sign up. Share your link with your family and friends and if any of them sign up you get 5 deal bucks added to your account to use towards your next purchase! It’s easy peasy and FREE, so sign up now! Another nice thing about signing up for Living Social that we like is that it offers companies that aren’t just the larger brand leaders to pass along savings to the consumer. It allows the small business to get in the game and advertise their select products and services as well. What’s the end result? A greater selection for us to choose from and save money!
