Usually we love posting fun things to do with your family on Thursdays but today I wanted to write about stress. How easy it is for stress to affect kids in your house and you may not even be aware of the ways it’s affecting your family. I have been so stressed out the last two weeks and not even really aware of it until it started showing up in Luke’s behavior, the change in my husband’s tone with me and ultimately my body showing signs of extreme stress which include but not limited to: hair loss, headaches every day, the “eye twitch”, and that knot in my stomach that won’t go away no matter how many deep breaths I take.
I really had to sit down and evaluate what was bothering me so much and get a grip on it because there wasn’t a whole lot of “family fun” going on in my house. Poor Luke was simply not himself and he was acting out BIG TIME, once I made a real effort to get my stress under control I immediately noticed a change in him and I had my happy little boy back! We’ll be writing about the January Parenting Conference we went to on Monday at Beech Acres next week but one thing that really stood out to me was hearing the quote “If you really want to change your kids, change yourself.”
It’s no great surprise that how we act directly affects our kids and we have so much influence on shaping these little ones with their attitudes, morals, values and behaviors. So my favorite family fun moment this week has got to be turning off all the technology and turning UP some crazy music to sing and dance with Luke. It feels great and it’s one of the most fun and simple family fun moments you can have with your kids. It cheers everyone up and you forget about the “stress” of the day, week, month…year? My challenge to you this week is to turn off the technology in your house and tune into your kids, you’ll have FUN too!
