With the craziness of the holidays I feel like our home has been in chaos since before Thanksgiving! We spent New Year’s Day getting our house back in order which meant taking down all the Christmas decorations, putting up a new calendar, going through and ditching any old coupons that we didn’t use for local stores that I held on to “just in case”. The New Year is a great time to get organized with various aspects of your life, including your house. Getting organized can most definitely lead to quite a few big pay offs for you including your peace of mind, saving money and starting the new year with a stress free positive outlook.
I wanted to share a few great money savers for helping you organize your home, starting with taking down all your holiday decorations! Big Lots is having a great after Christmas sale with 50% off their entire Christmas stock, including great deals for storage containers. (Now’s a great time to stock up for next year!) But also here are a few great deals to help you start off your new year a little more organized!
$5 Each at Big Lots!
They also have wreath storage containers and a tall gift wrapping container for $9! I have a couple old large filing cabinets in my basement that I use for organizing my wrapping paper. They are the super wide kind, so I have all my wrapping paper in one, gift bags and tissue paper in another and I even use one drawer for all my craft supplies for Luke. Whenever I pass by the Target dollar bin I grab one or two of the coloring books and throw them in this drawer for a rainy day. That old storage cabinet works wonders for keeping misc. things organized!
You can also get closet hanging organizers for $8 each at Big Lots that my cousin (mom of 3, thanks Tracy!) had the great idea of putting all three of her kids clothes for the week in each compartment at the beginning of the week so she doesn’t have the stress each morning of thinking about what each of the kids are wearing. She does it all on Sunday and then it’s done for the week! This way, if she knows one of her kids needs special gym clothes on Wednesday, she can organize it all once without having to remember who needs what outfit each day. It’s a brilliant way to stay organized with three kids and stay sane when you’re trying to get everyone out the door in the morning! You don’t have to spend a lot of money to re-use things around your house to help you stay organized. What are your favorite ways to keep your house organized?
If you’re looking to take organizing to the next level…check out Fly Lady! She’s an inspiration for us and we love how many great resources she has on her website. I don’t know about you, but I have much more to organize around my house this week, what about you? Any big projects you’d like to tackle in the New Year?!
Happy New Year Everyone!
