I got my very first bin this past Thursday from Green Bean Delivery and have set aside some time to plan some meals for the next week. What I love about Green Bean Delivery is the great selection of other groceries I can get without having to leave my house! Online grocery shopping is one thing I really miss about living in England. We didn’t do it a lot but we traveled frequently and we loved to have things delivered a few hours after we were do to arrive home because the last thing you want to do when you get home from a trip is go to the grocery store! All the food there is SO fresh because everyone buys things for the week and we would walk down to the high street, get our food for the week and there was really no need for all the preservative ridden food we have over here. (Another reason I can’t get used to canned fruit in restaurants!) AND you can save a lot of money by avoiding the grocery store and not adding those extra things to your cart! I love being able to do almost all my grocery shopping in one place and not have to get my meat, eggs, produce and other items from multiple stores!
So here are a few of the things that arrived in my beautiful green bin this week and this is what I have planned over the next week with inspiration taken from one of my favorite chefs – Jaime Oliver. I’ve been a fan for years and since we lived in England I watched the very first “Naked Chef” shows on TV and have collected almost all of his cookbooks over the years! He has a great website with so many of his recipes there for browsing!
Braeburn Apples, Asparagus, Lemons, Portobello Mushrooms, Onions, Valencia Oranges, Snap Peas, Salad Mix Greens, Zucchini, Strawberries and Cherry Tomatoes.
Sunday – Singapore Fried Rice with Salad and home made “mix in the pan” Chocolate Cake with Strawberries
Monday – Chicken Alfredo with Asparagus
Tuesday – Quiche with Mushrooms and Zucchini, Lovely Lemon Curdy Pud
Wednesday – Stir-fried Chicken and snap peas with Apple Crumble for Dessert
Thursday – Spaghetti Bolognese (Julian to cook since I will be out of town)
Friday – Leftovers
Saturday – Take Out
I won’t be getting another produce bin this week because I am leaving on Thursday for 4 days to head to Washington DC to help out with my cousin’s new baby girl! She named her….Kara Isabelle Moy (LOVE the initials!!) She had an amazing home birth and even delivered her little girl breech (butt first)! It’s such a great story and I’m SO proud of her to have her birth the way she wanted. At one point there were 5 midwives there taking care of her so she was in good hands and both Mom and baby girl are doing wonderfully!
I am fairly new to menu planning in general (because I always wing it!) but have found this Weekly Menu Planner useful to stay organized!
