For years now, we’ve loved every minute of the mommy and me music class at West Chester Academy of Music and Dance. Every since Luke was about 3.5 years old I noticed he seemed to out grow the class and it was just too young for him. We stopped going towards the end of my pregnancy with Emma and we haven’t been back again until recently when we wanted to try out the next class for his age group. We have really missed going to music and Luke is so excited about the new class! Here’s more info about the class, which starts at age 4 thru 6 years.
Our goal is to empower young children with the gift of music and nurture a life long love of music. Young Musicians Make Music is all about engaging in age appropriate musical experiences that will help develop that life long love of music through exploration of voices, movement, and instruments. The longer children stay with their music studies as a child, the greater the probability of that happening! Young Musicians have fun and are fully engaged as they sing, play, create, explore and move! Improvisation, accompaniment, composition and arranging skills are developed through group playing of Orff instruments. Introduction of numerous parts for students to play in ensemble bring a more developed sense of timing, listening skills and concentration. Participation builds your child’s musical literacy and physical skills.
Student home materials are an integral part of the student’s musical experience. Each child will receive 2 beautiful recordings of many of the songs used in the class. One CD comes with an instrument kit at the beginning of the year. The second CD comes mid-year, at the beginning of the third quarter. The students bring their instrument kits to class each week. They are encouraged to continue their music making and creativity at home by listening to their CD’s and accompanying with their rhythm instruments.
Young Musicians classes are offered year round in 4 quarters. Each quarter contains (10) 45-minute weekly classes. Parent participation is optional.
Current class time: Tuesdays at 4:45 p.m., Saturdays at 9 a.m.
I was able to sneak in to take some pictures and video! Both Luke and Cody loved the class!
