Now that Summer is winding down I’m trying to force myself to get organized and get back into a routine for school time. I have piles of keepsakes we’ve collected from our Summer adventures and I have been trying to find some easy and inexpensive ways to preserve them without throwing them in a box that we’ll never see again. Here are a few I’ve done from our recent trip to the beach at Siesta Key!
I used a 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby for this jar which ended up being about $10 and came with the chalk label on the front. It’s a nice bigger jar that I was able to put a lot of our beach keepsakes in it including a small jar of sand from the beach, buttons from our day at Disney World, seashells we collected from the beach, tickets from Lego Land and Mote Aquarium and a picture of our view from our condo rental at the back which gives it a nice background. It’s fun to have these keepsakes out on our mantel instead of in a box because each time I walk by and see this jar it makes me smile and remember how much fun we had at the beach!
The other thing I did was create a FREE mug with all our fun vacation pictures from Shutterfly! It’s easy and fun to have your tea or coffee in while you reminisce being on vacation!
The other fun thing I did was cut up a favorite picture of each of the kids on vacation and put it inside of a $1.99 plastic ornament from Hobby Lobby with some of the sea shells from the beach. If I would have had more sand it would have looked really cute with sand in the bottom as well! I also used a marker to write “Siesta Key 2013”.
I’ve seen people collect jars from every beach they go to and love the idea of keeping those memories out in such a fun way! We loved Siesta Key so much, the sand was like white brown sugar and it was not too crowded which was great for the kids to play. It was very kid friendly and I would absolutely go back there again and recommend it to anyone looking for a family beach vacation! Siesta Key was voted the best beach in America and it lived up to our expectations for sure – be sure to add it to your next Summer bucket list!
We all had our favorite parts of the vacation – mine was the beach, Luke’s was Lego Land and Julian loved Disney World. The only thing I really didn’t like was how the Disney staff kept moving our stroller, even when we parked it in a designated stroller park area they constantly move them around to make room for new strollers and a few times we wondered if someone took our stroller! The drive down and back was great, no issues from the kids and we drove during the day and stayed overnight at a hotel on the way there and back to let everyone rest. We stayed at the Sarasota Surf and Racquet Club that was recommended to us and we loved it – beautiful place and the grounds were gorgeous! We stayed in a 2-bedroom and it was large enough to accommodate more people easily. I highly recommend this place, it was immaculate and very family friendly.
What was your favorite Summer memory?
