I have been excited to plan a girls weekend away with friends once I was done nursing but it has been more difficult to plan something being so close to the Holidays! So a couple close friends and I decided to head downtown and do something fun for an overnight GNO with wine tasting, dinner and staying at a hotel downtown so we don’t have to be on a time crunch to get home at a decent hour!
We ended up going to Everything’s D’Vine which was a couple blocks from the hotel and restaurant for dinner and it was only $5 for wine tasting and $10 for beer and wine. They do it every Friday evening, the owner is really nice and they have a speaker there each week who talks about the wine choices for the evening. I am already planning to go back, it was a lot of fun and I learned a lot about wine!
Next we walked over to Palomino, a restaurant that I’ve heard a lot about but have never been experienced. Everything about our dinner was incredible. I made reservations and they sat us right near the window over looking the ice skating and they will decorate your table if you are celebrating a special occasion!
We got the Lavender Cosmopolitan and the Ginger Pear Martini and they were so good I would go back just for these drinks!
ALL the food was so good, I can’t wait to go back. The bread and dip we muched on while we waited for our salads – the Palomino Chop Chop salad was my favorite, a fantastic signature salad you can get all year long with big pieces of provolone cheese!
We each ordered something different for our main course. I got the braised lamb shank, the girls each got the Asiago-Almond Crusted Scallops and the Tuscan Filet. I tasted each of the meals and I would order each of them again given the chance! We had a taste of the mushroom soup and I know why they are known for this soup – it was so different and full of flavor. A must try if you are going to Palomino!!
We were so full after all this good food so we decided to share the Warm Pear Bread Pudding. I haven’t had anything like this before and loved the different flavors! Our waiter, Nate, was so nice the entire evening…I will request to be seating in his area next time we re there for sure! He knew a lot about the menu and we loved all his recommendations!
We had a great GNO and I’m so thankful for these girls. I always think it’s important to have friends with older kids who can give you a little perspective. When you have young kids, it’s easy to feel like you live in this “bubble” because they need so much attention from you and it is exhausting. I’ve learned so much from them and I love these girls for their clarity, especially when it comes to parenting!
If you are looking for a fun GNO or simply a date night with your hubby – go check out wine tasting or head over to Palomino! It is the perfect time to go for a Christmas dinner or drinks with friends! They will take good care of you and trust me when I say you won’t be disappointed! There is also ice skating in fountain square and horse drawn carriage rides which are magical with all the Christmas lights down town! Enjoy this special time of year with your friends and family!
