If I left my 5 year old to his own devices he would probably never leave his room full of Lego and star wars figures, except to eat. So I have to come up with some different ways to engage him in learning and branching out a little from his usual favorites. I started searching for reading games and came across a few Lego themed games but quite a few of them required you to purchase the files. I knew there had to be free alternatives and thanks to Pinterest I found lots of great word games that perfectly compliment the emergent reader.
I like that you can easily adapt this for your own needs, there are lots of words with this game and it’s important for new readers to keep things fun and not overwhelm them so we stopped after he picked two words from each group and then he picked one word he wanted to write from each group. It took about 10 minutes to put this game together, just print it and go! It is perfect to pull out each day for a few minutes of practice and fun!
