There’s no doubt that being a Mom is not always easy. It’s always worthwhile and important but it’s also messy and requires more patience than we can cope with at times. The moment you become pregnant you realize this. You spend most of your day trying to give yourself a pep-talk to get through the intense nausea, vomiting and unrelenting stress over growing and delivering a brand new person into this world.
You worry over everything. You question every decision you have to make and think most of the time that you are screwing it all up or that you could do better. Motherhood is a walk in the park, right? HA. So what can you do to make things a little easier on yourself and recharge your batteries?
Plan a Getaway.
This doesn’t have to be a big fancy getaway. I’m talking a weekend away. Just you and your hubby. Why? Because you need a break. A break to be able to finish a conversation with your husband, while actually stopping to look at each other. Remember what it feels like not to be exchanging orders at each other about who needs a diaper changed, a snack, drink, baths, bedtime, sports, etc? A break to be able to eat hot food without having to feed another little person (which usually includes bribing, threatening or arguing). By the time the kids are in bed you are so exhausted you just want to join them in bed.
Young children are a lot of fun but exhausting. After the kids are grown and out of the house it’s the two of you once again and you HAVE to remember to nurture your relationship with your husband. Don’t be just a room mate with your husband, don’t forget that you’re not just a Mom but a Wife too. Taking time out to ensure your relationship is a priority not only shows your kids how a healthy marriage works but it also means that you can “check in” with each other so you’re both happier and thriving in your day to day activities. Taking a weekend to be able to sleep in and reconnect with each other means that you are able to re-charge your batteries and keep on keepin’ on.
So what are your choices for weekend getaways? Julian and I just recently took the weekend to drive about 5 hours south to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, Tennessee and hideaway in a beautiful one bedroom cabin while my parents watched the kids. It is so cost effective there’s no excuse not to plan something once a year. The kids were thrilled to have some one on one time with their grandparents. They couldn’t pack their suitcases quick enough.
We stayed in a cabin called “Kisses and Wishes” from Cabins USA and loved every minute of our time there. It was so clean and I loved the kitchen so we could easily wake up and cook an easy breakfast without having to leave the comfort of our cabin. It was very beautiful and private, tucked away in the side of a mountain. We had a late check in so I really liked that the Cabins USA office right on the main strip so we were able to easily find our reservation with detailed directions that took us directly to our cabin which was minutes away from all the main attractions.
There is so much to do in Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, you will have no problems finding something you both enjoy doing…unless you prefer to sleep all day which is also a worthwhile way to spend your weekend! We chose to ride up a nearby mountain on ATVs and really fell in love with the the entire experience.
You can absolutely do as much or as little of the more “tourist” parts of Gatlinburg which is why we like going for a weekend. We also went wine tasting and saw a movie at the movie theater right on the main strip. Choose to relax in your cabin or be out in the country zip-lining, hiking or horseback riding.
Be sure to check out Cabin USA’s complete selection of cabins that include beautiful cabins with pool tables, swimming pools, theater rooms, honeymoon cabins, family sized and group sized cabins that are perfect for any getaway you might be thinking of and be sure to plan a time to get away sometime this year with your hubby!
