My kids have been asking lately to do more crafts and when I saw this idea I had to try it out, it looked easy but fun for the kids. Thankfully, it was both of those things and I even learned a little trick from my cousin visiting on how to make the perfect tree trunk that I want to share with you!
First, you need supplies:
- Wine corks, any size will do, different sizes are fun!
- Paint colors that mimic the colors of Fall.
- Paper. I used card-stock so it would hold up better but feel free to use regular construction paper.
- 1 brown marker, to help them draw the tree trunk.
Have your child hold their hand on the paper and trace their and arm (the trunk) and then their fingers, but do not trace the top of their fingers, these will be the branches and they will add painted “leaves” to the tree so you only want to trace the inside and outside of their fingers, not the top. Voila! You have a tree ready for leaves!
Use a paper plate and ask them to tell you about what colors they see on the trees in Autumn. For every color, you add a little paint to their paper plate. When they’re all done you can just throw the plate away which makes for quick and easy clean up! (And this also helps toddlers learn their colors!)
Let them choose a wine cork of their choice and let them paint the beautiful colors of Fall on their tree!
