Are you looking for a fun DIY version of the adorable Valentine bunting you see all over Pinterest? This version cost me less than $10 and it took all of about 20 minutes from start to finish. It is probably the easiest “Pin-Win” I’ve done.
Head over to your craft store and pick out your burlap. I went to Hobby Lobby and got two packages of their pre-cut burlap ($3) and be sure to use your half off coupons from your Hobby Lobby smart phone app. The red paint I already had but cost less than $1. I also already had the spray paint but that also costs less than $5 usually. If you already have string, use whatever you have. You can buy the jute you see here for $2.99. I originally wanted to use white spray paint but I ran out so I ended up using this silver paint but you could use any color you want.
First thing you need to do is spray your burlap!
Once this paint is dry, you can start painting on the red hearts. Don’t worry about getting them perfect, I think it adds to the character if they are each a little different. I did use a pencil to lightly draw each heart so I could easily remember where I was going to paint. I did this free hand, but I guess you could also use a stencil or trace any heart shape you have available to you. This part took about 10 minutes to do, depending on how long you want your bunting to be.
The next part was the easiest – you could probably use your glue gun but I wanted to be able to move each fabric around once I hung it so I ended up using a stapler! You can’t actually see the staples unless you get up really close and I liked how quick and easy it was to attach it to the jute string. The staples come out really easily so if you want a less permanent way to attach it to the jute use staples!
Here’s the finished product:
Have fun with this easy way to spruce up your mantle just in time for Valentine’s Day! If you have all/most of the supplies already it would be even cheaper! Enjoy!
